Not everything in the vaults beneath Raptor City was born of the pit. When the corruption seeped down into the undercity, it took hold of the beasts that had wandered into the tunnels too — and the Infected Bears are the result. Once ordinary animals, they are now bloated, blighted things, half-rotted and maddened with disease, that shamble through the same halls the [[Pro Banshee]]s haunt. They fight with nothing but brute strength and a sickening bite, but there are many of them, and they hit far harder than their dull eyes suggest.
South of Raptor City, past the fields, lies a small forest that honest folk have learned to avoid. Bandits and beggars camp among its trees, and wild warriors prowl the paths — but they are only the outer guard. Deep beneath the wood, in a cave that the outlaws themselves fear to enter, dwell the Wise Men.
They serve as the vaults' lower guard a grinding, physical threat that wears down careless hunters before the banshees and demon lords ever get their turn. Adventurers clearing the undercity often thin the bears first: steady, reliable prey that pays out in gold and provisions, and a warning that the infection gnawing at the realm has reached even here, directly beneath the capital's streets.
Robed and smiling, a Wise Man will offer you a rose one moment and split the air with holy fire and soul-rending magic the next, cackling "YOU FOOL!" as he strikes. Whether they are mad hermits, fallen priests, or something the corruption made and the world forgot, no one who meets them lives long enough to ask. The bandits above tolerate them the way a man tolerates a wasp's nest in his roof carefully, and from a distance. Only the mightiest heroes descend into that cave, drawn by the rare treasures the Wise Men hoard: dwarven rings, golden ingots, and stranger things no beggar could ever explain.

Overview

South of Raptor City, past the fields, lies a small forest that honest folk have learned to avoid. Bandits and beggars camp among its trees, and wild warriors prowl the paths — but they are only the outer guard. Deep beneath the wood, in a cave that the outlaws themselves fear to enter, dwell the Wise Men. The bandits above tolerate them the way a man tolerates a wasp's nest in his roof — carefully, and from a distance. Only the mightiest heroes descend into that cave, drawn by the rare treasures the Wise Men hoard: dwarven rings, golden ingots, and stranger things no beggar could ever explain.
